Here is a good listing of some of the most frequently asked questions about PCTV software…
What Is PCTV Software?
PCTV software is an application that enables computer users to download TV shows and movies via the internet. PCTV software first appeared in about 2004\2005, and is presented as a low cost alternative to expensive cable or satellite subscriptions.
My research indicates that several of the different software offerings actually do perform as indicated by their vendors, allowing users to quickly install the application and begin accessing TV shows and movies from around the world.
Is it legal?
In a word – yes, some of the applications available are actually licensed to access this content, and some of them are bundled with movie membership site passes that enable users to legally download their selected movies.
What are the advantages?
The advantages that PCTV software offers as opposed to cable or satellite subscriptions are fairly numerous:
- One-time price for the subscription, no recurring monthly fees.
- No need for satellite dishes or other equipment other than the computer.
- Access to literally thousands of TV channels from around the world.
- Typically, you can legally burn a copy to disk for personal use only.
- If installed on a laptop, you can take your “TV” with you wherever you go.
- Most systems give you access to music and radio as well.
Do I have to watch it on my computer?
No. You can burn shows\movies to disk and watch them on your TV using your DVD player, or you can connect your computer directly to your TV and watch as it downloads. Different models of computers and TV sets will require different connection methods, but all will employ a cable or a system of cables that can easily be purchased at a computer or department store like Target.
Is the picture quality the same as that of cable?
Sometimes the quality of the image is not as sharp as with cable or satellite, but it is quite good, and can usually be maximized by adjusting the display settings of your computer. Typically, if you download and then burn to DVD for manual playback, the quality is very high.
What if I try it and don’t like it?
Most vendors have a “consumer friendly” refund policy, but you would need to confirm the policy of the PCTV software vendor that you are thinking of using.
Many of these vendors use a company called Clickbank as a secure payment processor. Clickbank has a very consumer oriented refund policy in addition to the policy of the software vendor, so if you purchase a product that is sold through Clickbank; you have the refund policy of the PCTV software vendor in place; and you have the refund policy of Clickbank in place. Typically, they will issue refunds for almost any reason within sixty days from the date of purchase.
What are the disadvantages of PCTV software?
The main disadvantage is that you have to use a computer to download movies or programs, and then burn them to disk to watch them on your TV; unless you use the direct connection method mentioned above.
Additionally, there will probably be some degradation of the image quality, which will be more noticeable to some people than others. Even people who notice the reduced quality report that after a few days of watching, they no longer really notice it.
Another drawback is having to purchase the software, but that is definitely better than paying $50 or $100 per month (or more) just to get a more limited viewing experience.
While it might not be for everybody, PCTV software is certainly a great alternative for people on a tight budget, or those who just don’t like to spend money unnecessarily. The number of systems sold, contrasted with the number of refunded sales would indicate a high rate of consumer satisfaction.
Thanks for taking the time to read this report; I do hope that you found it useful.
